“Schirm” is German for “screen” and “foto” is German for “photo.” Translate this application’s name and you get “screen photo.” An apt name for an application that was specifically designed for screen capture purposes. You can use Schirmfoto to take a screenshot, edit the screenshot, and then save it locally or upload it to the web.

A setup wizard will install Schirmfoto on your Windows-powered PC. During the installation process it will ask you to register your copy. To complete the free registration you must enter your first name, last name, and email address; you must also agree to the terms and privacy policy.

Schirmfoto features three methods of taking screenshots. When you’re done with the installation process and you run Schirmfoto for the first time, a prompt will present these methods:
1 – Right click the tray icon and choose to take a screenshot of the entire screen, of the active window, or of a custom rectangular area.
2 – Use the capture icon presented in the title bar of the window (in the upper right hand corner, next to the buttons to close, enlarge, and minimize the window).
3 – Use the Print Screen key on your keyboard.

After you take the screenshot, you can edit it: add text, draw an arrow, draw using a pencil, marker and black painter, add a rectangle or circle, watermark the screenshot.
When you’re done editing the screenshot, you can save it locally (as PNG, JPG or PDF file) or up can upload it to the web (and then share the link to the uploaded screenshot).

Schirmfoto is free software. Abelssoft says that “if you use it regularly then we expect a small tip.”

A collection of several elements make Schirmfoto a great tool: three methods of taking screenshots, multiple ways of editing screenshots, multiple formats are supported for saving screenshots locally, you can upload screenshots to the web and share the link with others.

Pros

A setup wizard will install Schirmfoto on your Windows-powered PC; during the installation process you can easily register your copy. A prompt shows you how you can take screenshots with Schirmfoto: from the system tray, by using the capture icon in the title bar, or by using the Print Screen hotkey. Screenshots can be edited, saved locally, and uploaded to the web. Schirmfoto is free software (consider giving the developer a tip if you like this software).

Cons

None that I could think of.
